Gerneral Guide for replacing brake pads and brake discs
Part 1: Safety Check Before Repair
Before starting repairs, check that all the parts of the brake system that you will not be replacing are in perfect working order. These include the brake hoses and pipes, the seals and pistons of the brake caliper, the guide bolts on the brake carrier as well as the wheel hub and the wheel bearings. You should also check the brake fluid.Take this opportunity to inform your car about any other damage that may already be on the vehicle or which may arise in the near future.

Part 2 :Disassembly
Dismounting the brake caliper housing
1.Disconnecting the pad wear indicators. If applicable, disconnect the cables of the pad wear indicators.
2 Removing the housing fixing screws Unscrew and remove the housing fixings screws of both guide pins. On some systems, the guide pins must be prevented from turning with an appropriate tool.
3 Removing the housing. Remove the housing from the brake carrier and fix thehousing in a way, that the brake hose is not tensed and is not damaged.

Removing the bake pads
Remove the brake pads from the brake carrier and, depending on the system, the brake housing. Inspect the condition of the brake pipes and the brake hoses. You must replace defective parts.

Removing the carrier and brake discs
Remove both fastening bolts on the brake carrier. Remove the brake carrier and inspect it for damage and corrosion.
First remove the fixing screw of the brake disc(if present). After this, dismantle the brake disc.

Part 3 : Installation
Mounting the brake disc
Mount the new brake disc on the wheel hub and fix it using the fixing screw (if present) at the torque specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Mounting the brake carrier
Mount the brake carrier and any attachments that may be present and tighten the screws to the torque recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Installing the brake pads
Bringing back the brake piston. Front axle Use a suitable special tool to press the brake caliper’spiston back into its original position. Ensure that it ispossible to push the piston evenly and smoothly intothe housing. Check stiff pistons for dirt and corrosion. In case of doubt, you must replace the brake caliper! Consider that it may be necessary to replace theinstallation kits or wear indicator cable.

Rear axle with integrated parking brake. In opposition to the front axle, the piston of a rear axle caliper with integrated parking brake must be turned back to its rest position. (Attention: not valid for electric park brake EPB!) To prevent any damage of the housing, it is highly recommended to use a special tool for this operation!

Mounting of accessories
To ensure a precise response characteristic and a quick release of the brake, the brake pads have to be able to move up to a predefined degree within the brake carrier. Therefore the installation of the delivered accessories is of great importance. Please mount the complete pad fitting kit. Take into account to install new wear indicator cables if necessary, or if recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Insert the brake pads
Insert the brake pads in the carrier. Ensure that both brake pads are seated correctly.

Mounting the brake caliper
Fit the housing and hold it in position over the threaded holes of the guide pins. Ensure that it is correctly positioned and that the wear indicator cable(if present) is not crushed.Manually insert the new screws of the brake pad kit and tighten them with the torque, given by the vehiclemanufacturer.

Mounting the wheel
Before carrying out mounting, remember to clean theninside of the rim. The contact surfaces with the brake disc in particular must be free of dirt and rust. Dirty rims can be the reason for warped brake discs. When mounting the wheel bolts or wheel nuts, follow the instructions of the vehicle manufacturer regarding tightening sequences and torques.
